When it comes to doing your weekly food shop then you will definitely notice prices have gone up for items.

While it may not seem much here and there it certainly adds up over the coming weeks, months and years.

As the UK is going through a cost of living crisis, it is no wonder Brits are going to certain lengths to ensure every penny counts. Especially, when it comes to food and stopping it from going to waste.

And now supermarket giant Tesco has offered a word of warning about one of its food items in a bid to save some money.

On their website, they have shared useful tips on how to make certain items last longer and stop us from throwing them in the bin. This time they have focused on bananas.

While many of us have it as a quick go-to snack we sometimes don't always get to finish the fruit before it goes all brown and mushy.

However, Tesco has come to the rescue by saying you can freeze the item to use at a late date.

Tesco's website said: "Using your freezer for just ice cubes and a packet of frozen peas? Wondering whether you can freeze milk?

"Freezers are the most efficient when they are full, so make the most of the space to prevent food waste and have ingredients ready to go. From milk and cheese to veg and rice, your freezer can do it all!"

For ripe bananas, the supermarket recommended peeling them and freezing them whole or in slices.

Then when you're ready to use them they can be grabbed straight from the freezer and are great for adding to smoothies.

Let's not forget that frozen bananas also work well for ice cream so if you're thinking of a way to cool you down, this food item will certainly do this.
