A man who bought an electric car was surprised by how tiny it turned out to be. The Mexican chap, who lives in Puebla, believes he may have purchased the "smallest car in the world".

His brother Josué DPL has garnered more than 25 million views by posting videos of the miniature vehicle online. Josué explained his brother ordered an electric car from Waldo's website. Then when he went to collect it, he was surprised to find out it was a real car, not just a toy.

He added: "The funniest part was that I went to the post office thinking it would be a toy car because he usually buys small things, but I didn't expect it to be a normal car."

After the story went viral, Josué has been keeping people posted on the driving experience. He's shared plenty of details – from the motor's nickname, to its cost and pedal power.

Josué affectionally calls the car "zapatito", which translates as little shoe. He revealed his brother purchased the car for 90,000 Mexican pesos (almost £4,000 British pounds) through Waldo's official website in Mexico.

The car enthusiast has also mentioned that one of the drawbacks of owning it is that he can't drive under the radar any more.

He joked: "If you are shy, I don't recommend it, because it attracts a lot of attention. Whenever I take it out, people want to take pictures. It doesn't have air conditioning, but one of the most negative points I see is that it doesn't go faster than 40 km/h."

In Mexico, Kiwo electric vehicles are known on social media as "the smallest in the world". They can only be purchased at Waldo's – whether this is online or at branches that stock the models.

The recreational Kiwo vehicle has a capacity for three passengers, weighs 100 kilograms, and has a maximum speed of 40 km/h.

Meanwhile, Peel P50 won a Guinness World Record for the smallest production car ever made back in 2010 – but who knows, it may now have a contender!
