Two motoring experts have taken to YouTube to share three used models they claim drivers should avoid, stating that they could come with unexpected issues.

Adam Morris and Jim Hull run the YouTube channel ReDriven and regularly create videos offering advice that can help viewers find the right used car for them.

In a recent video, the two motorists discuss used cars they claim should be avoided, warning drivers against getting behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Aveo.

Adam explained: "Now, these aren't necessarily a terrible car, and with absolutely fastidious maintenance, they can be okay. The problem is that the company doesn't exist anymore."

Jim added: "That's right, things like ABS control modules you cannot buy anymore, and that's a common problem with those as well."

Sold between 2012 and 2015, the Chevrolet Aveo was a South Korean-assembled city car that gained a reputation for being good value for money.

Whilst buyers are now able to get behind the wheel of a used Aveo for less than £1,000, they are often considered uninspiring to drive, with many reportedly featuring weak engines.

In addition, with competitors like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo being more popular, the YouTubers noted that it is hard to source replacement parts.

Later in the video, Adam and Jim claimed that motorists in the market for a used SUV avoid the Dodge Nitro due to its problematic electrical system and high depreciation rates.

Jim advised: "The thing that stands out with the Dodge Nitro is their electrical system was just probably one of the worst modern car electrical systems ever done."

Adam continued: "Also, aside from all of the mechanical issues and build quality issues, depreciation. These plummet in value and that depreciation is not going to stop, you'll get to a point where the repair costs exceed the value of the car."

Finally, the YouTubers stated that, whilst most petrol-powered Mazdas are incredibly good used cars, diesels can have faults.

Adam claimed: "We're talking the Mazda 3, Mazda 6, CX5, CX9 and BT50. If it's a Mazda and it has a diesel engine, do not buy it. It's weird, too, because the petrol engine models are fantastic."

Jim also claimed: "It's chalk and cheese. The petrol models are great, the diesel models are not great. They have this very complex turbo setup and they fail all the time. The electronics fail, the sensors fail, it's almost like they're made in a different factory."
