Two new Clean Air Zones are set to launch this spring in Bradford and Greater Manchester affecting petrol and diesel owners. Drivers who are worried they are affected by the fees can now check using national and local services.
National checker
GOV.UK has launched a national service where drivers can check whether they need to pay fees across any of the UK Clean Air Zones.
This included the two new charges in Manchester and Bradford but also the existing schemes in Bath, Birmingham and Portsmouth.
The results are then presented in a table where drivers can determine how much they would pay to use the roads.
To access the service, drivers will simply need the number plate of the vehicle they are hoping to check.

They said: “You might need to pay to drive in a clean air zone if your vehicle does not meet emissions standards.
"Pay the daily charge.
“This service cannot check vehicles that are registered outside the UK.”
They added: “If your results show no charge, your vehicle is compliant in this Clean Air Zone and you do not need to pay.”

All drivers need to be aware of changes on the roads this year. From stricter rules on phones to new highway code guidance, here are the seven major changes for road users.
Manchester Clean Air Zone
Clean Air GM has launched their online checker for drivers worried they may be affected by the charge.
They said: “Is my vehicle affected and am I eligible to apply for funding?
“Answer a few questions to check:
- "If your vehicle is included in the Clean Air Zone
- "If you are eligible to apply for financial support to replace or retrofit your vehicle
- "More information about your options
“Before you start: you might like to have your V5C vehicle logbook to hand to check your vehicle tax class and body type.”
Manchester’s Clean Air Zone will not charge private cars and motorbikes, instead focusing on Goods Vehicles and private hire vehicles.
Bradford Clean Air Zone
Bradford Council has not introduced their own online vehicle checker service for residents and visitors.
Instead, they urged road users to use the Government's national checker to ensure if they need to pay a fee.
They added: “Use the Government’s Drive in a Clean Air Zone service to find out if your vehicle is compliant with emissions standards and exempt from charges or you need to pay for your vehicle, by entering your vehicle’s registration number.
“If you’re a business or organisation, you can check multiple vehicles.”
Bradford has also confirmed charges will “not apply to private cars and motorbikes”.
