One of Sarah Hadland's first ever acting jobs saw her kiss a renowned theatre star in a particularly "weird" scene. Sarah, 53, is best known for her role as Stevie Sutton in the BAFTA-nominated comedy series Miranda.

But years before she landed the breakthrough role, the actress appeared in the 1998 film, Basil. Starring Christian Slater, Jared Leto, Claire Forlani and Derek Jacobi, Basil follows a lonely young aristocrat who struggles to meet the approval of his class-conscious father.

Her second ever performance in a film, Sarah played a Windmere House Chambermaid. While it was a minor role, she still had to get up close and personal with one member of the cast.

More than a decade after the film was released, Sarah opened up to Metro about her kiss with Derek Jacobi.

"It was one of my first jobs in a dreadful film called Basil," Sarah recalled. "I played Windermere House Maid and I had to snog Derek Jacobi on the lawn."

Sarah, who is set to appear on the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, added: "There’s this awful moaning noise, then the camera pans back to reveal Derek Jacobi pawing me under a tree. He was absolutely lovely about it and there I was thinking, 'This is one of the great stars of the theatre', so it was a bit weird.

Sarah was announced as the ninth celebrity taking part in Strictly Come Dancing alongside fellow actor Shayne Ward. Speaking on Lorraine, the actress gushed: "I cannot believe I am part of Strictly!

"I feel particularly excited to be part of such an iconic show in its 20th year. I’m so ready for the glitz, glam and glitter and hopefully I can make everyone watching at home proud!"

As well as playing Miranda's sidekick, Sarah was also one of the original cast members of the multi award winning series Horrible Histories.

The comedy star has also had roles in Waterloo Road and the 2008 James Bond movie Quantum Of Solace. Detailing the audition process, Sarah thought there had been an "error" when she was surrounded by models.

She told Metro: "I went to the audition and everyone else there was a model so I thought: ‘There’s been a huge error, I’m not supposed to be here.’ So I was the least nervous I’ve ever been for an audition.

"But then they picked me – I was Ocean Sky Receptionist. I had to deal with a problem Bond had with his credit card. I hope they’ll bring Ocean Sky Receptionist back for her own film and I’m confident Daniel Craig has never stopped talking about my performance."
