Monica Bellucci’s telling comment about Tim Burton after Helena Bonham-Carter split
Beetlejuice star Monica Bellucci's comments spoke volumes when she broke her silence on her relationship with director Tim Burton following his split from Helena Bonham-Carter.
Monica Bellucci gave a candid insight into her romance with Beetlejuice director Tim Burton after striking up a relationship almost 20 years after they first met.
The Italian actress, 59, said she “loves” the gothic filmmaker, 66, and described their time together as an “adventure”. They are thought to have first met at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival but reportedly reconnected in Lyon in October 2022.
Speaking to Elle France last year, while the duo were filming Beetlejuice 2, Monica said: “What can I say… I’m glad I met the man, first of all.
“It’s one of those encounters that rarely happens in life… I know the man, I love him, and now I’m going to meet the director, another adventure begins.
“I love Tim, and I have great respect for Tim Burton.”
Prior to finding love with Monica, Tim was in a 13-year relationship with Helena Bonham-Carter. Before splitting in 2014, they welcomed two children: Nell, 16, and Billy, 20.
The Harry Potter actress, 58, has previously compared their separation to a “death” and said she experienced “massive grief”.
She told Harper’s Bazaar in 2016: “You go through massive grief – it is a death of a relationship, so it’s utterly bewildering. Your identity, everything, changes.”
Helena is now in a relationship with art historian Rye Dag Holmboe, 35.
