Express Online takes an inside look into some of our favourite soap stars who quit either Emmerdale or Coronation Street for regular work.

While it can be a challenge to secure more acting gigs with only a few soap stars having managed to crack Hollywood, while others struggled to get more TV work, some ditch the fame altogether for a regular day job.

Steven Arnold

Steven Arnold became a household name playing butcher Ashley Peacock on Coronation Street between 1995 and 2010. But in a dramatic turn of events his character was killed off over a decade ago in a tram crash.

Earlier this year, the former Corrie star posed for a selfie with a starstruck customer who revealed her surprise at seeing him serving behind a counter, where he worked as a butcher.

Since leaving the ITV soap he has made cameos in short films and regularly works in pantomime productions.

Georgia May Foote

Actress and model Georgia May Foote is best known for playing Katy Armstrong on Coronation Street having joined in 2010 but five years later her character was killed off.

She has since launched her own business GMF Nails and qualified as a nail technician in 2021.

The former soap star opened a salon in Middleton, Manchester.

Georgia also offers 1-1 lessons in nail art, as well as builder gel and gel polish.

Joe-Warren Plant

Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant is best known for his role as Jacob Gallagher in the Dales since his debut in 2010.

Now 22 years old, while still a regular on the soap, he was recently spotted pulling pints during his downtime at a local pub in Blackpool.

According to The Mirror, an onlooker at the pub said: "Joe-Warren is a friendly lad – he only joined recently so he's just getting started.

"It's not the case at all that he has left Emmerdale, he's still very much on set. But he knows via friends the owner of the bar and offered to help out."

Aside from the soap he also competed in Dancing On Ice in 2021 where he was partnered with Vanessa Bauer.

Adam Rickitt

From soap star to pop sensation, Adam Rickitt reached the heights of fame after he left Coronation Street in 1999 to start a music career.

He signed a six-album deal with Polydor Records, although he only released one album - Good Times.

He returned to Corrie in 2004 before appearing as Nancy Osborne's fiance Kyle Kelly in Hollyoaks from 2017 until 2020.

However, since leaving the soap Adam has opened a craft beer bottle shop in Cheshire.

Adam opened Dexter and Jones, in Knutsford with his Good Morning Britain presenter wife, Katy, with the establishment specialising in craft beer, artisan gins and fine wines.
