Kirstie Allsopp, star of Location, Location, Location, is no stranger to disagreements with co-host Phil Spencer over property choices for potential buyers. However, this time she has found herself at odds with Loose Women's Janet Street-Porter after suggesting that detached houses should be "banned."

Kirstie made the bold statement during an interview, criticising the UK's housing system as unfit for purpose due to skyrocketing mortgage payments.

The 52 year old presenter advised those considering buying a house in the UK to avoid detached properties, citing their environmental impracticality.

In her conversation with Daily Mail Weekend magazine, she further explained: "They don't make the best use of the sites. They have smaller gardens, there's less community. That gap between the houses is a waste of space."

Co-host Phil seemed to anticipate the controversy her comments would stir, responding with: "You have to be brave," to which Kirstie retorted: "You have to tell the truth.", reports the Mirror.

Janet Street-Porter, known for her outspoken views, was among those who took umbrage at Kirstie's remarks. She fired back on X, formerly Twitter, igniting a feud.

Her post read: "Kirstie Allsopp says detached houses should be banned because they are not 'environmentally practical' and lead to loss of community feeling...Posh people always seem to know what's best for the rest of us, don't they? ".

Janet's frank remark led to a surge of comments on social media. Screenwriter Jonathan Harvey chimed in on the platform, stating: "Like she's never lived in one."

Another individual queried, "So I take it she lived in a semi-detached then? I think not."

"One is leading a privileged life with no experience of troublesome neighbours and the daily stress from incessant noise and interrupted sleep," another user added. Sensing rising disgruntlement, Kirstie felt obliged to explain her stance on detached homes on social media, hoping to prevent misconception.

She penned, "It's not the fact that they are detached it's the quality of them. Better to build semis or terraced houses with bigger gardens, better heat and sound insulation and, vitally, more space inside then pretend those tiny little gaps means they are 'detached' and somehow better." (sic).

In a further post, she stated: "If anyone wants to know my views on the appalling quality of some of today's so called 'detached' new build housing find my original tweets on the matter."

Kirstie then revealed she lives in a sizeable detached house in Devon, as well as a city apartment in London.

She passionately elaborated: "Every working day I get to help people, and see this country and learn about real lives and real issues. I care deeply about the quality of what we build and where we expect people to live. Anyone who can't see that just doesn't want to, but that's their problem not mine. Thank you to all the folk that do."
