Zoe Ball's son Woody Cook has steered clear from the whirlwind of speculation about his mother, as the BBC host continues to mystify Radio 2 listeners with her prolonged time away from the airwaves.

The much-loved DJ, who has been at the helm of Radio 2's breakfast show for an enduring stretch, has been notably absent for some time now, leaving her slot in the capable hands of Gaby Roslin and Scott Mills. Zoe had taken a step back earlier this year, revealing the heartbreaking news that her mother Julie Peckham was battling cancer.

Tragically, the family matriarch died shortly after the revelation.

Despite making a temporary comeback to the Radio 2 breakfast programme at the start of August, Zoe was absent from the show after only a few days, once again giving way for Scott Mills to fill in. Since then, she's yet to return.

Woody, the eldest offspring from her marriage to Norman Cook, focused on promoting a nifty gadget that aids him in recording his DJ gigs when he took to Instagram last week. He has since shared another post via his Stories.

Taking to Instagram, he evangelised about 'The Howler' - a gadget for DJs looking to capture or stream their sets.

"Calling DJs from the bedroom to the stage. Want to record or livestream your sets? The Howler could be your answer! ! @howler_audio (disclaimer) They did send me this for free and I have enjoyed using it for 6 months at this point. Much love everyone," his caption enthused.

In his promotional video, Woody showcased the device from the comforts of his home.

Concerned fans have voiced their worries over Zoe's absence from the radio, with one tweeting: "What has happened to Zoe Ball? She's been off the radio for five weeks in total - no mention of her whatsoever the last few weeks. I hope she's ok."

Zoe has been absent from the Radio 2 Breakfast Show for five weeks with no official reason given.

The beloved broadcaster, aged 53, has been missing from the airwaves since August 8.

An insider this week disclosed to Mail Online that there's a sense of mystery surrounding her absence, stating: "Nobody knows what has happened but everyone loves Zoe."

The BBC has now confirmed when she will be returning to her Radio 2 show.

A spokesperson said: "Zoe will return to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month."

While the spokesperson did not confirm an exact return date, the Radio 2 website seems to suggest she could return to the airwaves as soon as Monday, September 23.
