Paul O'Grady's beloved husband Andre Portasio proved that the passage of time hasn't diminished his fondness towards the For The Love of Dogs star.

He shared a photo of the pair together on social media on Monday morning as he fondly reminisced over their wedding. Addressing Paul in view of almost 45,000 followers, he revealed: "Miss you today more than anything. Happy heavenly wedding anniversary."

The pair enjoyed a 17-year relationship with them eventually marrying in 2017 on the advice of comedian Julian Clary. He insisted he had a hunch that the pair should follow in his footsteps by tying the knot - and Paul later explained that his advice had "set a seed" in his head.

He told the Mirror at the time that although the pair fought "like cat and dog", marriage had helped them feel more "committed" to each other. Showing his comedic side, he joked: "I like saying I'm married – better than saying I'm a divorcee, which I was before."

Meanwhile, the snap Andre posted on Instagram today left fans emotional. "Such a beautiful memory of the two of you. He will always walk beside you & be the voice in your ear. You have him tucked safely inside your [heart]," one exclaimed.

"What an amazing photo. Full of happiness and contentment. A true reflection on how marriage should be," someone else chimed in.

"Dear Andre, Paul is a constant enveloping and loving energy who will never leave you. Mixed emotions on your Anniversary I am very sure. We send our love and support," another vowed, adding a string of rainbow emojis to punctuate the point.

"These are the tough days aren't they, when there's a specific memory that links you in such a wonderful way," sympathised one Instagrammer.

"Focus on all the love and joy you shared. He is with you always," chimed a fourth.

Andre previously had followers in tears after announcing that he took a fan's advice on giving the couple's five canine companions one last goodbye to Paul.

Appearing on Loose Women in April, he confessed that he'd taken advice from a "very worried" 85-year-old fan before deciding to set the stage for the goodbye.

"It stayed at the back of my mind and I thought I must attend to what she's asking me to do, so just before he was buried I took the dogs to say goodbye," he explained.

Reflecting on the moment he found his beloved Paul, he lamented: "I don't wish for my worst enemy to find the person that you love unconscious on the floor."

Paul died "unexpectedly but peacefully" at his home in Kent in March last year, aged 67, from sudden cardiac arrhythmia.
