Wimbledon: Clare Balding looks forward to seeing new stars of tennis
Clare Balding left viewers startled after it was believed she made an explicit error during BBC’s live coverage of the Olympics.
The sports presenter is in Paris, France to cover her seventh Olympic games for two weeks of the international event.
As well as fronting the swimming races, the 53-year-old was also updating viewers with the scores from other sports.
On Monday, Clare introduced Team GB’s Tom Pidcock, who won a gold medal in the men’s cross-country mountain biking.
During the race, he suffered a puncture in his front wheel, but quickly recovered with an astonishing comeback as he overtook France’s Victor Koretzky with a nine-second advantage.
Although many were on the edge of their seats during the race, they were quickly startled when Clare referenced the cyclist live on air.
Some viewers believed she mispronounced and said “Big” instead of “Pid” when saying the cyclists’ surname.
Taking to X, @Alwyn_w reshared the clip and claimed: “Pretty sure Claire Balding just called Tom Pidcock something entirely different then!”
@robbie_soles remarked: “Has someone been messing with the autocue? I swear Clare Balding just called Tom Pidcock..... Tom Bigc**k…”

A shocked third viewer @HoarseFace asked: “DID CLARE BALDING JUST SAY TOM BIGC*CK?”
@bobbie_bro85654 responded: “Yes, my husband & I just replayed it 3 times.”
Despite the frenzy on social media, Clare has yet to address the potential mispronunciation.
