BBC broadcaster Alex Scott has fled the country to enjoy a sun-soaked holiday after she was snubbed as a presenter in the Paris Olympics coverage.

The 39-year-old commentator is enjoying a trip in Ibiza with her girlfriend, Jess Glyne, as the Paris Olympic Games officially gets underway.

Alex has been left out as a presenter in this year's line-up, with the likes of Gabby Logan and Clare Balding returning to present all the action on the BBC over the next fortnight.

During the Tokyo Olympic Games three years ago, Alex faced criticism for her accent on social media. She seemingly hit back at her critics with a defiant post on Instagram at the time.

She wrote: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because in the end those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter, Dr Seuss."

During the Tokyo coverage, businessman and politician Lord Digby Jones took to X, formally known as Twitter, to criticise the commentator whilst she was presenting on the BBC.

He wrote: "Enough! I can’t stand it anymore!

"Alex Scott spoils a good presentational job on the BBC Olympics Team with her very noticeable inability to pronounce her ‘g’s at the end of a word.

"Competitors are NOT taking part, Alex, in the fencin, rowin, boxin, kayakin, weightliftin & swimmin." [sic]

Alex responded to the tweet, proudly replying: "I’m from a working class family in East London, Poplar, Tower Hamlets & I am PROUD (Raising hands emoji).

"Proud of the young girl who overcame obstacles, and proud of my accent! It’s me, it’s my journey, my grit."

Alex also covers the English Premier League and previously presented the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.
