David Beckham and Katherine Jenkins faced an awkward meeting in the Royal Box at Wimbledon after he refused to apologise for criticising her OBE.

The former England and Manchester United star, 49, who in 2003 was awarded an OBE for his services to football lashed out after the singer was given the same honour in 2018.

Following his fury at not getting a further honour, he fired off an email about the Welsh mezzo-soprano, 44, which was leaked online.

He wrote to an adviser: "Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke. F***ing joke."

She said during the fallout of the row that she was hurt by the comments along with a lack of an apology.

Katherine, at the time in an interview with The Sun, said: "You're just minding your own business and you get caught up in this massive storm. You just think, 'Aw, I wasn't doing anything'. To get caught up in that wasn't pleasant.

"I don't know why, again, that was aimed at me. I also don't feel the need to defend this, by the way. I know what I've done and when I got the OBE it was given to me for musicand for charity."

She was awarded an OBE at Buckingham Palace in 2018, after her services to music and for charitable services after performing to troops on the frontline.

Katherine said she had not tried to contact the former England star in the wake of what he said.

She added: "It's obviously disappointing. I've never heard anything from them about it.

"It doesn't matter. Priorities are my kids, my family, my singing, my charities and that's just white noise in the background."

The row came after the singer was forced to deny an affair with Victoria Beckham's husband six years earlier.

David was pictured at today's Centre Court at the All England Club on Monday alongside his mother Sandra, 75, with Katherine accompanied filmmaker husband Andrew Levitas, 46, sitting behind him.

A body language expert described the tense encounter between David and Katherine in an exclusive analysis for Express.co.uk.

The legendary broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, 98, is also in the Royal Box today alongside his daughter Susan Attenborough.
