Lorraine Kelly faced the music along with her husband as they joined legions of hopeful Scottish supporters for the Euros, only to witness Scotland's devastating 5-1 defeat at the hands of Germany. The 64-year-old presenter was all smiles in a snapshot with hubby Steve, nestled amidst a sea of Scots fans, despite the bitter outcome.

Taking to social media, Lorraine praised the undaunted spirit of the Tartan Army: "Obviously not the result we wanted but I salute all the brilliant Scotland fans who made the trip over and who had so much hope and faith. It's by no means over but we are all gutted tonight x."

Remaining upbeat, she continued: "Still managing a smile at the end! Me and @stevesmithdundee - we came - we saw we lost - but best footie fans in the world - and we enjoyed the party #noscotlandnoparty #tartanarmy."

However, it didn't take long for the sentiment to sour as fans flooded her post with their frustrations, including one particularly blunt critique: "The fans did the Scottish team proud if only it was the other way around, the team was an embarrassment to them."

Another added: "I have lived in Munich for over 20 years and I have seen many football fans come and go. But you Scots were the best, the most likeable and the funniest fans ever. With your tartan and your bagpipe music, you flooded the city and I loved watching you celebrate.", reports the Mirror.

They continued: "Even though you unfortunately lost, although I wished you would win at some point, I hope you still had a wonderful time in Munich. My next holiday will be to Scotland Thank you for being here."

A third said: "A sore one to watch. I was watching it at my grandparents house with my uncle and my pops."

A fourth person commented: "Not the result from the game we wanted. But oh god did the Tartan Army do Scotland Proud. And a fifth penned: "Watching from our home in Spain and so proud of every one of them. Flag flying high here Not the result from the game we wanted.

"But oh god did the Tartan Army do Scotland proud." Ahead of the match, held in Munich, Lorraine was seen dressed in a tartan outfit as she revelled in the enjoyment before the game kicked off.

Lorraine, co-hosting live with sports presenter Connie McLaughlin, was caught on camera bouncing up and down to calm her nerves.

Connie even shared a clip with the caption: "Limbering up with @lorrainekellysmith."

During the broadcast, Lorraine made an amusing gaffe when she mistakenly called out to a fan by the wrong name, saying, "Where's Callum? Now Callum..." Only for the fan to correct her: "Connor!" The crowd responded to the mix-up with a boisterous cheer.

Brushing off the error with humour, Lorraine joked, "I've been doing it wrong all the time, I've been doing it wrong all the time, I nearly called you Shirley but that's fine!"

Meanwhile, back in the studio, Ranvir Singh expressed her jitters about filling in for Lorraine, quipping: "By the way, it's slightly nerve-racking because my boss is watching me do her job right now so this is a bit uncomfortable for me! So, off you go! " She continued with encouragement, "Have the time of your life, Lorraine, it is wonderful to see you there!"

Lorraine airs on weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITVX.
