David Beckham's 2017 Glastonbury adventure reportedly didn't go as smoothly as planned, thanks to an unexpected appearance by his wife Victoria at Worthy Farm. The upcoming book The House of Beckham by Tom Bower delves into the marriage of the retired footballer, 49, and Posh Spice, 50, and shares new details about their long-standing romance.

While the couple admitted to being "against each other" in David's Netflix series last year, they only briefly discussed their efforts to save their marriage in the early 2000s when David was accused of having an affair with his former PA Rebecca Loos.

However, according to The House of Beckham, which is serialised in The Mirror, the couple faced additional issues years later.

In 2017, Victoria reportedly gate-crashed David's Glastonbury trip. Initially, David and a small group of friends, including his best mate Dave Gardner, attended the renowned British festival without Victoria, who was due to arrive later from New York.

The group, which is said to have included the married Lady Mary Charteris and a "glamorous Australian bikini model", partied until 5am the night before Victoria's arrival. The festivities resumed at lunchtime the next day, only to be interrupted by a phone call announcing Victoria was there.

"'There was no hassle and a great mood until she landed,' complained one of the group," Bower claims in The House of Beckham.

"With her entourage she headed in a golf buggy through the scruffy campers to the VIP zone. She was furious that her husband had failed to reply to her telephone calls and had dispatched a search party.

"Eventually, David appeared. Within seconds, they were embroiled in a ferocious argument.... 'They looked quite miserable,' said one eyewitness, 'but they managed to pose for the cameras'," reports the Mirror.

Bower continues to detail David's relationship with his long-time mate Dave Gardner, someone Victoria allegedly wasn't too fond of being her husband's drinking companion.

He alleges in the book: "Insiders knew about Victoria's opinion of Dave Gardner and his racy lifestyle. 'Dreggy,' she called his party crowd. In 2003, she had been particularly unhappy about Beckham being best man at Gardner's £2 million first wedding to the soap actress and socialite Davinia Taylor."

Bower adds: "Their separation and eventual divorce increased the time Gardner and Beckham spent together, especially after Beckham stopped playing professional football. Without the demands of a strict training routine, Gardner had helped fill the vacuum by introducing him to glittering parties."

Dave and Davina divorced in 2010, with Dave citing Davinia's 'unreasonable behaviour' as the grounds for the split. The sports and entertainment manager went on to date Lord of the Rings actress Liv Tyler, even becoming engaged to the Hollywood star at one point.

The House of Beckham by Tom Bower is released on June 20 and is available to buy from Amazon.
