Tess Daly and Queen Camilla have formed "a real friendship" through their mutual love for Strictly Come Dancing, according to her long-term husband Vernon Kay. The BBC Radio 2 presenter said King Charles and Queen Camilla are "big" fans of the show, with the latter even keen to know what goes on behind-the-scenes.

He shared: "Camilla and Tess have a real friendship through it now. They don’t text, but we have mutual friends and messages come through. When they see each other, the Queen is always asking: ‘Who is your favourite?’ She wants to know the backstage gossip.

"It’s crazy to think of the King and Queen sat on the sofa with a brew watching your wife present Strictly.” In his latest interview, and his first with daughter Phoebe, Vernon said he would "seriously consider" signing up for the show should the offer come his way.

No stranger to a reality show, the presenter took part on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! back in 2020 and finished in third place. Despite taking part in some gruesome Bushtucker trials, the father-of-two believes performing the Waltz would be much harder to do.

"I’ve never been asked to do it,” Vernon told The Sun's Fabulous Magazine. “It’s hard learning how to dance, especially to that level. You’ve got to be committed. Doing the waltz is a lot more difficult than eating a bull’s testicles! But if I was asked, I’d seriously consider it.”

It's not the first time royals have been known to be a fan of the BBC show.

The late Queen Elizabeth II was also said to tune into the show, as does Princess Kate.

Professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova recently said that Princess Anne told her she'd love to sign up to the show.

After meeting the royal at a ballet event, she told The Sun: "She is a Strictly fan, and she wants to go on the show – she told me.

Lorraine: Giovanni Pernice was 'excited' for Strictly's 20th show

"I think she would be good,” she added. “There’s a lot of personality there, isn’t there?”

Despite the interest, no royal is yet to have made it onto the dance floor.

With the show marking its 20th anniversary this year however, could this finally be the time?

Celebrities set to take to the dance floor for the special series are yet to be revealed by the BBC.

Rumoured names in the mix so far include; Dame Laura Kenny, Hannah Waddingham, Gino D'Acampo, Alan Carr and Toyah Willcox.

What has been confirmed is the judging line-up, with all four judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood set to make a return.

The likes of Dianne Buswell, Graziano Di Prima, Katya Jones, Vito Coppola, Gorka Marquez and Johannes Radebe will also be returning as part of the professional line-up.

On Monday, the BBC announced that Giovanni Pernice will not be a part of the 2024 series. The news comes following complaints about his teaching methods from three of his ex dance partners.

The dancer is currently co-operating with the BBC's investigation into the matter, but continues to deny any wrongdoing.
