Jeremy Vine has sparked backlash after asking his followers if he should call the police after filming a black cab being close to him as he cycled in the bicycle lane on the road. The 59-year-old shared a short clip that he had filmed for his fans to see which showed him cycling in his lane, while a black cab is in the lane beside him.

In the clip, Jeremy zooms in to show how close the vehicle is to him as the words 'not allowed' flashed in yellow at the top. He penned: "Close pass on me by London cab. Would you report this to the police? Happy with yes/no answers.

The majority of the BBC Radio 2 star's followers didn't think the cab driver was in the wrong as they flocked to the comments section on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One person expressed: "Goodness me where do you want him to go - over the b****y island??? Some roads have lots of room. Some are narrow." Another follower penned: "No - because of the cycle lane divider making any close pass prosecution very difficult.

"You've two choices in this instance - either ride in the cycle lane and accept these passes, or ride in the middle of the main lane and accept some abuse from some drivers."

Somebody else commented: "You are in your lane, he is in his lane - where is the problem??"

Yet another exclaimed: "Sir, with due respect - what reality are you living in? Your in your lane he is in his - we know negative infuriating news garners attention but sitting there clipping up go pro videos to create gotcha moments is just a tad ridiculous."

A fifth said: "No the cab seems like he is in the middle of his lane as you are in yours."

While a sixth added: "What is it with people being so scared of everything in recent years? Both driver and cyclist are in their own lanes to travel.

"Absolutely 0 issue here on the driver's part. I'd have carried on with my day the same way I would have if I walked past someone and they brushed my shoulder." (sic)

However, one person jumped to Jeremy's defence as they asked: "@theJeremyVine Isn't it about time cyclists were licensed and insured?"

Just last month, the Channel 5 star exploded with rage over a video featuring a cyclist colliding with a vehicle, like he had done himself last year. The presenter reacted to the 27-second clip by exclaiming that anyone who thought the cyclist was at fault should have their "car crushed".

The video featured a car abruptly making a turn in front of the biking man, who slammed into it and was thrown to the ground due to the intense impact.
