Coronation Street's Nathan Curtis actor Chris Harper is refusing to grant his family's wish of seeing him on Strictly Come Dancing, as he believes the competition would be "hell". While a guest on ITV show Lorraine today, stand-in host Joel Dommett told viewers that the actor's family were "desperate" to see him on the dance floor, but Chris believes he'd be better off on The Great British Bake Off.

After discussing what's next for villain Nathan amid the ongoing Lauren Bolton storyline, he reacted to a mocked up picture of himself alongside the show's professional Katya Jones which could be seen on the big screen. Despite taking a liking to how he looked in a Ballroom-style suit, he said his moves wouldn't be good enough to compete.

He shared: "That would be my form of hell. Do you know how good everyone is on there? I've got two left feet. I'd be awful, I'd be better off on Bake Off or something."

Should Chris change his mind, his schedule for the rest of the year appears to be too busy for the show as, alongside filming for Coronation Street, he has teamed up with comedian Seann Walsh and The Crown's Aden Gillett for Yasmina Reza’s acclaimed play Art.

Together they will embark on a nationwide tour this Autumn, around the same time Strictly is expected to return. News of this year's line-up is currently under wraps with an announcement expected in due course.

Rumoured celebrity names in the mix for the upcoming series so far include; Dame Laura Kenny, Hannah Waddingham, Roman Kemp, Gino D'Acampo and Jill Scott.

A source told The Mirror: “Hannah would be an incredible signing for Strictly this year and so far things are looking very positive. She loves the show.

"She has heard so much about it from Anton (Du Beke) and Hannah (his wife)– as she is a close friend to both – and is keen to do it."

The source went on to say taking part this year comes down to whether or not it could fit into her schedule, adding: "Obviously it’s a very big commitment, and she is incredibly in demand at the moment."

Following Laura's retirement from cycling, another souce said she'd be "the ultimate signing" for Strictly.

They added to the publication: "She has a huge fanbase in the sports and also has a very emotional backstory – the nation loves Laura."

Speaking to Express.co.uk earlier this year, Miquita Oliver said her mum Andi Oliver would also be a perfect fit for the show.

She shared: "My mum always says that she'd want to do it but it's not for me. I don't like not being good at something straight away, you need to be patient.

"I do like getting better at something, but yes I'm far too bad at coordinated dancing."

Miquita went on to say she'd also be a "bit freaked out" by the attention it brings as she is deep down "quite shy" and would also struggle with being told what to do.

Andi has also shared that doesn't take authority well. Opening up about transitioning from music to food and how she's thrived in a white, male-dominated industry, she told Good Housekeeping Magazine: "I just don't care what people think of me, and I guess that's my superpower.

"I will not be bullied. I will not be led by other people's ideas about my limitations. I don't like people telling me what to do. I’m not very good with authority, which was a problem when I was at school."

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV and ITVX.
