Lauren Steadman: Strictly Come Dancing star calls out AJ after Portsmouth 'disaster'
STRICTLY COME DANCING 2018 professional AJ Pritchard admitted he'd had a “stressful week” after his dance partner Lauren Steadman revealed how he had forgotten a number of essential products days before their live performance.
Strictly: Lauren fights back tears during judges' criticism
Lauren Steadman joked about AJ Pritchard’s Portsmouth “dilemma” when she spoke about their visit to the city.
The 25-year-old triathlete admitted the experience was “explosive” as AJ, 24, had forgotten to bring some items with him.
In an interview with Strictly Come Dancing: Strictly Confidential, Lauren and AJ were asked who takes the longest to get ready.
Although the pair had conflicting answers, they both agreed AJ had a difficult week in Portsmouth.
It was a real dilemma. It was a stressful week!
Explaining why, Lauren began: “We did have a disaster in Portsmouth this week because he [AJ] didn’t have his curl cream with him; so it was a bit explosive.”
Interjecting, AJ added: “I didn’t have my curl cream with me, it was so embarrassing I was walking around and people were looking at me weird.
“I didn’t really blend in in Portsmouth.”
Mocking the professional dancer, Lauren quipped: “[His hair was] poodle like.”
“But I forgot my normal hair stuff and then I forgot the conditioner and then my normal hair cream,” AJ replied.
“It was a real dilemma. It was a stressful week, but the dance was fine it was just the hair.”
Afterwards, Lauren was asked what nickname she would give AJ, to which she replied: “Prince Charming."
“Yes, that has to be it! He literally is like that Prince out of Shrek, the one that is all flawless,” the athlete shared.
AJ responded enthusiastically: “That’s just Prince Charming or Ken. I’ll take Ken, imagine doing a dance to I’m a Barbie Girl.
“I’ve said it now so it could happen.”
Last weekend, the duo performed the Argentine Tango to River by Bishop Briggs, but failed to impress the judges.
The couple ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard with just 25 points and were told they lacked chemistry when the panel reviewed their dance.
Dame Darcey Bussell said: “We were really missing sort of that chemistry and passion that’s in the narrative.”
Meanwhile, Shirley Ballas remarked: “I appreciated the complexity of the number, so it had some really nice flicks and kicks.
“The mood tended to stay a little all the same, so it stayed a little too in one zone, but again as we’ve said before just a few more details here and there.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight on BBC One at 6:45pm.
