And just to confirm the company’s aim to encourage a greater interest in wildlife it has also announced a deal with DreamWorks Animation.
When Harmony of the Seas launches in May to spend summer in the Mediterranean the penguins from Madagascar will have stowed away onboard with Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo and King Julien the lemur.
The animals will meet and greet fans in activities throughout the day, including DreamWorks Character breakfasts that will also include Po from Kung Fu Panda plus Shrek and his ogre wife Fiona – and the inimitable Puss in Boots.

But behind the fun is the very serious aim by Royal Caribbean to reduce its environmental footprint and raise awareness of ocean conservation among its five million passengers worldwide.

The company aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 35 per cent between now and 2020.
It also plans to source 90 per cent of its wild-caught seafood from MSC-certified sustainable fisheries and 75 per cent of its farmed seafood from ASC certified responsible farms.
Royal Caribbean will also donate £3.5million to WWF’s global ocean conservation work and help build awareness of conservation issues among its passengers.
A Commitment To Oceans
Dreamworks characters are also getting involved
“Our mantra at Royal Caribbean Cruises is ‘continuous improvement’ and this partnership with WWF represents a great opportunity to make a big step forward in meeting our special responsibility to protect the oceans,” says Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO.
“It is also gratifying to see that our determination to make a meaningful difference is shared by our employees and our guests. “This new partnership aligns all of us at RCL with WWF’s mission to conserve the world’s oceans. “Together we are setting aggressive goals and together we will start implementing them right away.”

World Wildlife Fund US President and CEO, Carter Roberts, adds: “The threats that are facing the ocean are greater than ever – in the last 30 years, some ocean wildlife populations have declined by nearly 50 per cent. If we are going to reverse the downward trends, we must take serious steps to repair, restore and protect the oceans. This initiative centres on two core concepts: first, committing to specific and measurable targets to reduce carbon emissions, increase sustainable sourcing and build destination stewardship; and second, comprehensively engaging their millions of travellers to learn about the ocean and then act to help save it."

Meanwhile, on Harmony of the Seas this summer families will also be enjoying the Ultimate Abyss, the tallest water slide at sea, plus three other slides that create
The Perfect Storm and Spalshaway Bay – an interactive aqua park for children.
