The beautiful little Greek island with hardly any tourists because they're all in Mykonos

You might not have heard of this Greek island, but it's definitely somewhere you should look into for your next holiday.

Syros in Greece is just a 30 minute ferry away from Mykonos but with hardly the same level of tourists.

The gorgeous island, surrounded by crystal clear waters, is a real hidden gem despite being so close to the famous party island.

The vibrant island has events throughout the year and, with a population of over 20,0000, there is certainly a buzz about the place.

There are plenty of beaches and villages which host film, jazz and animation events on a year round basis. The island also has an array of street art, classical music festivals and cultural events.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay on the island, the Sunrise Beach Suites are a great choice. Located near Azolimnos Beach, the apartments offer incredible sea views. It is also situated just 5.4km from Saint Nicholas Church.

While you’re on Syros, if Greek cuisine is a favourite of yours there are traditional Greek cooking classes available to book. Cooking classes are a growing trend but you can’t really miss the opportunity to take one up in another country - the most authentic way to learn about their food. The activity can be booked through Tripadvisor and you’ll be able to learn how to use organic, local seasonal produce to create healthy and delicious dishes.

The beaches in Syros are considerably less busy than those of more popular Greek islands, making them even better. Galissas beach is one of the best on the island, guests can swim in the clear waters, relax on the golden sand, and enjoy unique souvenirs in the taverns of the village.

The chapel of Agia Pakou which is located by the beach offers incredible views of the island.

For dinner, Seminario Restaurant aims to give holidaymakers an unforgettable meal.

This is a lovely restaurant, in a beautiful location with very friendly, welcoming staff and fabulous Greek food. We ate here three times during our four night stay in wonderful Syros!”
