A former flight attendant has shared her top tip for securing a free upgrade on a plane, although she admits it's a "risky" strategy.

Lorna Luxe, who swapped the skies for a career as an Instagram influencer and fashionista, revealed her insider knowledge on the Should We Delete That? podcast.

She debunked the myth that gifting cabin crew with chocolate upon boarding will secure you an upgrade. That is despite a recent claim from another flight attendant suggesting that a Toblerone bar is a surefire way to their heart.

However, Lorna did share a potential trick for those travelling with a companion, reports the Mirror.

She suggested: "I'll tell you what is a good hack, if you're travelling on a full flight with someone else and you're angling for an upgrade, put yourselves in seats that aren't together.

"Then when you get to check-in, be like 'omg it's our wedding anniversary or whatever, is there any chance you could put us together?' They're never going to put you together but they might bump you up."

Host, Em Clarkson, said the move "seems risky". She added: "It seems like a risk.

"That happened to me before, I went to Japan I had my baby and I wasn't sitting with my husband and it was like 'no one's going to upgrade me with a kid' and they wouldn't."

Lorna also divulged a rather unsettling tip about avoiding in-flight hot beverages. She said: "It is because those tanks never get cleaned.

"Say the aircraft is like 15 years old, I mean, it's up to you but I wouldn't drink it, I wouldn't even do a cup-of-soup."

The social media sensation further shared her insider knowledge on the optimal seating to dodge turbulence, advising that the prime spot is at the front of the plane, ahead of the wings, explaining that this is due to the tail flaps.
