Jessica Pegula says it is 'crazy' that she will face Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final just weeks after going up against each other in Cincinnati. Pegula maintained her hopes of winning a maiden Grand Slam title by coming from behind to beat Karolina Muchova in the semi-finals.

The American made a slow start to the match, going behind in the first set with Muchova winning six of the first seven games. She kicked into gear at that point, taking the second set before turning the screw in the third to complete an impressive comeback.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, breezed past Emma Navarro in straight sets to book her place in the final. She defeated Pegula in the Cincinnati Open final last month and will be hoping to repeat that performance when their rivalry is renewed on Saturday.

Speaking after her win over Muchova, Pegula said it was 'crazy' that she will be going up against Sabalenka in her second final in three weeks.

"Playing Aryna is going to be really tough," she said. "I mean she showed how tough she is and why she's probably the favourite to win this tournament.

"It'll be a rematch of Cincinnati, so hopefully I can get some revenge out here, but I am happy to have a day off. It's kind of crazy that we're playing each other again in the finals.

"I think it shows how much great court tennis we've been playing and she's going to be obviously tough to beat, but that's what the finals are for, so I am ready."

Pegula's family were in the crowd to watch her beat Muchova and reach the first Grand Slam final of her professional career. Her billionaire parents, Terry and Kim Pegula, are the owners of NFL franchise the Buffalo Bills and were once again in the spotlight.

"I mean, it's amazing," she added. "I have my brother there and my sister there, on the screen with my dad and my brother in law, lots of friends, lots of family all scattered around. Obviously my husband. He is not even standing up, he doesn't want to be seen.

"I have so much of my family here and they've been here watching a lot of my matches, so to still be here and have them still here supporting me is crazy. I am glad that they're able to share this moment with me."
