Naomi Osaka shared an emotional statement after crashing out in the second round of the US Open.

The two-time former champion was back in Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2022, having missed last year’s tournament after giving birth to her first child.

Osaka was initially disappointed by her straight-set loss to Karolina Mochova. But the 26-year-old changed her mind after a special moment with her daughter.

The former world No. 1 made a statement in the first round, upsetting 10th seed Jelena Ostapenko for her best win by ranking since January 2020. But she failed to back it up, suffering a 6-3 7-6(5) defeat to Muchova on Thursday night.

Immediately after the match, Osaka admitted that her “heart died” and does every time she loses. The Japanese tennis star has since had some time to reflect on her tough loss and now has a new perspective, explaining her thoughts in a heartfelt Instagram post.

“Honestly I had typed out a whole caption about how I’m disappointed with myself etc but I’ve been sitting here playing with my daughter and I realised that I couldn’t be more proud of myself,” the four-time Grand Slam champion wrote on Thursday.

“I gave birth to such an amazing human and I played the US Open? A win is a win. Sure it didn’t work out this time but I have faith it will eventually. Thank you NY. See you next time.”

After losing to Muchova, she said: “Honestly I feel like I'm coming back from pregnancy, but also it wasn't like in 2022 I was like the best version of myself. So in some way I had to catch up to that, and then also I'm trying to pass it at the same time.

After losing to Muchova, she said: “Honestly I feel like I'm coming back from pregnancy, but also it wasn't like in 2022 I was like the best version of myself. So in some way I had to catch up to that, and then also I'm trying to pass it at the same time.

“I don't know. It's been a little difficult because obviously I can only gauge how I'm doing by results. Like, I feel faster. I feel better, but I lost in the second round. So it's a little rough. But, also, it's been fun playing a lot of tournaments. It's been a commitment for sure, but I've been able to go to different cities that I've never been to.”
