US Open star Taylor Fritz told ESPN he has “beef” with them following his victory over Francisco Comesana on Friday. The American secured his place in the fourth round of the final Grand Slam of the year after securing a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over his Argentine opponent.

Fritz has been in inspired form at Flushing Meadows and had already seen off Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Matteo Berrettini in straight sets in his opening two matches of the tournament.

And he was rarely troubled during his showdown with Comesana, with the two players separated by nearly 100 places in the world rankings.

Fritz’s victory means he is the first American player since Andre Agassi in 2003 to reach the second round of all four Grand Slams in the same calendar year.

And the achievement was acknowledged by ESPN, who took to X to promote the feat. But Fritz appeared to have other things on his mind as he directed a response at the broadcaster.

Ahead of the US Open, Fritz attended the Taste of Tennis event alongside his girlfriend Morgan Riddle, who is a social media influencer. Following the event, which mixes tennis with the culinary world, Riddle told her fans on social media: “Taylor’s mad tonight because ESPN followed me on Instagram and doesn’t follow him.”

Casper Ruud

And there is no doubt ESPN’s snub has been living in Fritz’s head rent free as he replied to their congratulatory post following his win against Comesana and wrote: “Love the shoutout from @espn but you follow my gf and not me on insta so we have beef.”

The 26-year-old’s remark received plenty of attention, with a host of his 104,000 followers replying to him directly and laughing along.

Fritz, who recently spoke out about an ATP Tour rule change, will now face Norwegian ace Casper Ruud in the fourth round after the eighth seed toppled unseeded Chinese star Shang Juncheng in an epic five-set third round encounter.

And the talented American, who reached the Australian Open and Wimbledon quarter-finals earlier this year but is yet to reach the last four of a Grand Slam, explained after overcoming Comesana: “I’m feeling good.

“Two nights ago I was really happy with how I came out and played, and it gave me a lot of confidence coming into today, feeling like I was going to be able to play a solid match.

“I stayed focused the whole time, stayed on top of it and played really solid.”
