Alex De Minaur adopts young kid as good luck charm and it causes huge upset at French Open

Alex De Minaur’s good luck charm is paying off, as the Aussie caused a massive upset in the fourth round of the French Open. He sent No. 5 seed Daniil Medvedev packing with a 4-6 6-2 6-1 6-3 win.

After his last match, the 25-year-old put out a social media plea to find a young fan who had been cheering him to victory. It was successful and De Minaur invited the boy back to watch him face Medvedev.

The world No. 11 has now adopted the young kid after claiming he pulled off a “miracle” in Monday’s match. And there’s no doubt his new mascot will be back for the quarter-final, and even his practice sessions.

De Minaur was asked whether he would be bringing the fan to his next match after enjoying success against former world No. 1 Medvedev. “Oh, 100 per cent. He managed a miracle,” he smiled.

“Yeah, might have to get him on tour week in, week out.” It wasn’t just the one fan who came down for De Minaur’s fourth-round contest either, as the Australian made sure that he had an whole extra support camp.

The eight-time title winner continued: “No, we found him obviously through the beautiful world of social media, we ended up finding him. We got him to the match. He came with his whole crew, with his mates and his coach.

“Yeah, it was great to see him out there. Again, even on that big court, I could hear him after every single point. It's a distinctive voice, so it's great to see.” De Minaur is now planning to bring Paul back to the tournament on his off day and for his quarter-final match.

He added: “He'll be around. I think he'll be, you know, chilling with me tomorrow in my practice day, and of course he'll be there for the very next match.”

After beating Jan-Lennard Struff on Saturday, De Minaur took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to look for the boy. Reposting a video of his young fan cheering him on, he wrote: “I need to find the name of this legend!!! Message me on instagram, I need you for the next round.”
