Iga Swiatek earned a staggering £8,843 per minute as she blitzed through her fourth-round match at the French Open in just 40 minutes.

The three-time champion in Paris made light work of Anastasia Potapova, dropping just 10 points as she earned a 6-0 6-0 victory, the fifth double-bagel win of her career.

Swiatek is now through to the quarter-finals, ensuring that she has pocketed £354k (€415k). It works out as £8.8k (€10k) per minute thanks to her storming performance.

The world No. 1 has a reputation for winning 6-0 and 6-1 sets - known as bagels and breadsticks. There is even a long-running joke about Iga’s bakery, as she often serves her rivals the brutal, bread-related scorelines.

And it was no different for Potapova on Sunday, as she felt the wrath of the four-time Grand Slam winner at her best. Swiatek made just two unforced errors and only dropped three points on her own serve.

The prize money remains the same no matter what the scoreline, and Swiatek needed 40 minutes to guarantee at least £354k. If she lifts the title for the third year in a row, she will win £2m (€2.4m).

It’s a great turnaround for the 23-year-old, who needed almost three hours to get past Naomi Osaka in the second round. Swiatek saved a match point and won the last five games to avoid the upset, winning 7-6(1) 1-6 7-5. Since then, she has returned to her dominant self and also beat Marie Bouzkova 6-4 6-2.

Swiatek will now enjoy a well-deserved rest day after getting the job done before midday, explaining that she didn’t need to get back on the practice court - especially after that gruelling Osaka match. “We have time to practice tomorrow, so there's no need to, like, do that today because it's not that I'm playing next match tomorrow, and I need to work on some stuff, and I need to rush it,” she explained.

“So, no, usually I don't play even after a quick match. Maybe, you know, it happened couple of times, but yeah, I don't feel like I need to right now. So I'm actually happy that I could recover after match against Naomi because, you know, three-hour matches, they stay with you for a couple of days, but I felt really fresh today. There's no need to, like, make it worse again. It's better to recover.”

Sharing how she felt on the court in her savage victory against Potapova, the Pole added: “Comfortable. You just go with it because there's no point of changing anything. You just continue what you've been doing and what has been working. But, honestly, I was always focusing on the next point. I didn't really look at what happened before. So that was probably also why I could be efficient.”
