Novak Djokovic overcomes shoulder injury concerns to send message to US Open rivals
Novak Djokovic showed he was not ready to give up his US Open title without a fight against Denis Kudla.
Novak Djokovic overcame pre-match doubts about his physical condition to demonstrate exactly why he is the best player in the world in beating Denis Kudla at the US Open.
Djokovic had just one practise session before this match due to pain in his left shoulder, around 90 minutes before stepping onto Arthur Ashe Stadium to face Kudla.
But you wouldn't have known that as the world No 1 was at his miraculous best at times to stop his American opponent taking advantage of any issue he may have had.
Djokovic broke Kudla four-times in the match, won 81 per cent of points on his first serve and hit 34 winners in a clinical 6-3 6-4 6-2 victory.
The defending champion will now face Stan Wawrinka in the fourth round on Sunday.
