Simona Halep through to Wimbledon final after convincing Elina Svitolina win
SIMONA HALEP is through to the Wimbledon final after a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory against Elina Svitolina.
Wimbledon: Halep says she has a ‘big chance’ against Williams
Former world No 1 Halep did not have as straight forward an afternoon as the scoreline suggests.
It took 25 minutes for the pair to come through the first three games with no breaks.
Both players dropped plenty of points on their own serve but it was Halep who kept herself together the best.
The Romanian will face either Serena Williams or Barbora Strycova in Sunday's showpiece final.
But she is not bothered about which opponent stands in her way of a second Grand Slam title.
"It doesn't matter because it is a final," Halep said.
"It is the last match of the tournament, playing on Centre Court at Wimbledon.
"I cannot ask for more."
Halep has slipped down the world rankings since winning the French Open last year.
But she will be looking to kick-start her rise back to the top of the game by winning the title this week.
However, the 27-year-old will have to overcome her emotions at the All England Club.
"It is an amazing feeling. I am really excited and nervous," she said.
Wimbledon: Serena Williams on thoughts before the semi-final
It is one of the best moments of my life. I am trying to enjoy as much as possible.
"It was not that easy as the score shows. Every game was very long. She is an amazing player and it is tough to play against her.
I think I played the right tactic and was good mentally and physically."
