Russell Westbrook: OKC star sends HUGE warning to rivals after historic night
RUSSELL WESTBROOK insists nobody is going to stop him after making NBA history by finishing his second consecutive season averaging a triple-double.
Russell Westbrook picked up 20 rebounds against the Memphis Grizzlies
Westbrook became only the second person in history and first since Oscar Robertson in 1962 to average a triple-double for the entire campaign last year.
The phenomenal feat led to him being rewarded as the season’s MVP but he has proved it wasn’t a one-off.
The 29-year-old went in to last night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies needing 16 rebounds and he ended with a career-high 20.
It means he stands alone as the only man in NBA history to average a triple-double for two consecutive season.
“I’m very thankful and blessed to go out and compete,” Westbrook said.
“Like I said many times, I don’t take this game for granted.
“God got something planned for me, ain’t nobody going to stop it.”
Westbrook took a swipe at his critics who claim he is simply stat-padding by defending his ability to achieve what many others could only dream of.
Westbrook was given a standing ovation when he made sure of his triple-double season
"A lot people make jokes about whatever, stat-padding or going to get rebounds," he said.
"If people could get 20 rebounds every night, they would. If people could f------ get 15 rebounds, they would.
“People that's talking or saying whatever they need to say, they should try doing it and see how hard it is."
