Rugby League: Warrington's Ben Westwood to play against Australia in World Cup match
WARRINGTON forward Ben Westwood will be available for England’s World Cup opener against Australia after escaping with a one-match ban for his punch in Saturday’s Grand Final.
He struck Wigan’s Blake Green in the second minute of Warrington’s 30-16 defeat, and has also been fined £300. Westwood, 32, will miss the friendly against Italy at Salford City Stadium on Saturday week. But he will be free to play against the Aussies at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, October 26.
Reports suggest that Sydney Roosters’ second row Sonny Bill Williams is keen to end his six-season absence from New Zealand’s team.
