Darts star Luke Humphries has received backing from his fellow professional Gary Anderson, who hit out at the treatment of the world No 1 from the media and pundits in a fiery rant.

The 29-year-old is ranked as the best in the world after enjoying a stellar 2024 in which he has won five titles in 10 months.

In January, he won the PDC World Darts Championship, defeating fellow Cheshire talent Luke Littler 7-4 in the final. Now Littler is out of the World Grand Prix, Humphries has a golden chance to add another title to his growing collection.

But there is something to be said at how Littler, 17, has garnered more attention due to his youthful age - something that has irked darts veteran Anderson, who demanded more coverage for Humphries.

"It's not just being world champion, what has Luke won over the past two years?" Anderson said. "This is the thing, he has won just about everything since this last year, He's not just world champion, he's there for a reason.

"World champion was added onto his CV, he's won so much more. And the boy gets looked over every time, which I think is a load of b******s.

"He's deserved everything that he's worked for, everything he's got and talk to the other players [they feel the same]. Rubbish, absolute rubbish.

"Just a little respect, it's always other people. But Luke goes on you go. As long as they're talking about other people, the limelight's off of him so he can just carry on what he does. He's handling it well but deep down he must be cheesed off."

Anderson continued by insisting Humphries deserves more media coverage and described him as the "best darts player in the world".

"You've got Luke Humphries [who is the] best player in the world no doubt. Should do a bit more interviews with Luke because he deserves it," he added.

"What he has won over the last 12-18 months, he deserves it. Luke Littler's coming through firing all guns. You've got Mike de Decker cracking player. Darts is going to be a funny place in the next couple of years."

Like Humphries, Anderson made it through to the last 16 of the 2024 World Grand Prix, although he did it the hard way after beating Michael Smith in a last-leg decider on Tuesday. But Anderson claimed he only enjoys playing the ProTour at the moment and doesn't care for anything else.

"To win is great but either way I wouldn't care and I really do mean it. I [have] play[ed] darts [for] a long time now. It's more of a hobby than ever," he added.

"When they go well, they go well and when they don't, they don't. There's days I play phenomenal and other days I don't play phenomenal."
