Higgins grateful for 'divine intervention'

John Higgins admitted that 'divine intervention' helped save him from an early exit after progressing to the next round at the Wuhan Open.

Higgins was staring down the barrel in round one after going 3-0 and 4-2 down before he clawed his way back to victory against Fan Zhengyi.

Higgins eventually celebrated a 5-4 victory and praised his new cue after watching his previous equipment break in transit at an airport.

"I was going nowhere after Saudi Arabia with my old cue. My game was in bad shape," he said. "It maybe took some divine intervention, I don’t know what it was.

"It made me swap equipment and it seems to have given me a lease of life. Who knows how long it will last but today it seems good.
