Mo Farah shown the way in Kenya
Mo Farah is chasing European Cross County glory in Dublin tomorrow – after replicating the way the greatest prepare for races.
Britain’s No1 male distance runner Mo has just returned from training in Kenya where he witnessed once again why the country has been the dominant force at the sport for so long.
Farah said: “They are so good because all they do is sleep, eat and train. They live at 8,000 feet and everyone runs. You wake up in the morning and no matter what time it is, there are people running around. You turn up to the track sessions and there are 50 guys to run with.”
Farah is aiming to regain a European title he won in Italy three years ago and once more faces Ukrainian Sergiy Lebid, who has won this title on eight occasions.
But Farah’s fourth visit to Kenya left him amazed at the effect it can have on an athlete.
He added: “Some of the facilities are unbelievable. Every time I have found a different route to train and there is a lot more variety. If you want to go on the flat, you can; if you want to go on the hilly loop, you can. There are all different trails. It is so much easier. I did not do anything else except sleep, eat, train and rest.”
Farah has had a roller-coaster year. After winning the European 3000m indoor title in Turin in March, he finished only seventh in the 5,000m at the World Championships in Berlin during the summer.
