NBA conspiracy theory behind Steve Kerr outburst in Warriors loss
STEVE KERR produced an incredible outburst on referee Ken Mauer during the Golden State Warriors’ 129-107 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in order to protect Draymond Green.
NBA: Steve Kerr comments on his referee outburst
That is the opinion of NBA expert Nick Wright.
The Warriors were losing by seven points with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when Green was judged to have committed a flagrant foul.
Replays suggested it was merely a cynical challenge trying to prevent a two-point shot, but the referees disagreed.
As a result, the Blazers retained possession from which they went on to extend their lead and run away with the game.
Kerr’s outburst after the flagrant foul decision was a sight to behold, with the 53-year-old throwing his clipboard to the floor and flailing his arms about as he furiously confronted Mauer.
NBA expert Wright believes there was some method behind Kerr’s outrageous actions, however.
“The Warriors weren’t gonna come back - they were down seven prior to this,” Wright told First Things First.
I think there was a little method to his madness
“They were down 15 the next time they touched the ball. It had been an eight-point possession for the Blazers.
“But I think Kerr was trying to take one for the team.
“Because I think Draymond was going to lose his mind, because it was such a bad call and he had already been testing throughout the fourth quarter.”
“I think Steve Kerr fell on that grenade. And, by the way, Kerr does this about once a year. He throws a tantrum!
“You’re gonna get thrown out if you throw the clipboard that close to the ref. But I think there was a little method to his madness.”
