NBA news: Lakers BLOW as Trevor Ariza completes trade switch
LOS ANGELES LAKERS have reportedly missed out on signing Phoenix Suns’ Trevor Ariza.
The Lakers had been negotiating a trade for Ariza for a number of weeks and they were willing to include Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as part of the deal.
However, a third team was required as the Suns were hoping to acquire a point guards.
It was also reported the Suns were not keen on doing business with the Lakers because of the criticism they received for letting Tyson Chandler buyout his contract.
So they have instead come to an agreement with Washington Wizards.
According to the Athletic reporter Shams Charania, the Suns will receive Kelly Oubre and Austin Rivers for the service of Ariza.
“Sources: Phoenix is trading Trevor Ariza to Washington for Kelly Oubre and Austin Rivers,” he tweeted.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski also wrote on Twitter: “Phoenix has agreed to a deal to send Trevor Ariza to Washington, league source tells ESPN.”
The Wizards came close to securing a three-way deal last night but the move fell through at the last moment.
Memphis Grizzlies were confused over which player they would receive as part of the trade.
Wizards local reporter Chase Hughes confirmed why they wanted to acquire Ariza.
“Can confirm the Wizards are trading Kelly Oubre and Austin Rivers to the Suns for Trevor Ariza,” he said.
“ESPN was first. Wizards are bringing back Ariza to add defence (and save a little $), but at a steep price.”
