Anthony Davis holds secret conversation with Kyrie Irving about shock trade
ANTHONY DAVIS has reportedly held talks with Kyrie Irving about joining him at Boston Celtics.
Davis’ future has been up in the air all offseason because his contract with New Orleans Pelicans expires next year.
It is thought the Pelicans may let Davis leave before the trade deadline to avoid him walking away as a free agent in 2019.
And the power forward appears to already be setting up his next move as he bids to win a first Championship ring.
The Athletic journalist Jay King has claimed Irving’s recent commitment to the Celtics has swayed Davis’ decision to move to Boston.
“The two have already spoken about what it would be like to play together in Boston, according to a league source,” King wrote.
Irving has been another All-Star whose future has been shroud in speculation all summer.
But following the pre-season defeat to Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, Irving announce he will be signing a contract extension.
“If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here,” Irving said after the defeat.
“I've shared it with some of my team-mates, as well as the organisation and everyone else in Boston.”
Meanwhile, King also noted that Los Angeles Lakers are interested in signing Davis, who last week proclaimed to be “the best player in the league.”
A potential switch to link-up with LeBron James in Los Angeles could be tempting, although the Celtics remain the frontrunners for his signature.
“Several league sources have said they believe Davis could end up either with the Celtics or Lakers if the Pelicans were to move him,” King added.
“If he landed with the Celtics, he'd be reunited with former Team USA team-mate Irving.”
Davis scored 15 points as the Pelicans lost 106-100 against New York Knicks last night.
