Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll have made a U-turn on their decision to divorce ahead of the US Open this weekend. The couple, who were only considering separation recently, have now decided to work on their marriage.

The pair first laid eyes on each other at the 2012 Ryder Cup, and within just five years, they walked down the aisle in an opulent ceremony at Ashford Castle. Welcoming their daughter Poppy Kennedy into the world in 2020 was another highlight of their life together, and the couple have enjoyed many years in an exceptional £8million mansion in Jupiter, Florida, purchased by McIlroy from fellow golfer Ernie Els.

Originally from Holywood, County Down, the 35-year-old Northern Irishman chose Florida as his home to facilitate more golfing sessions stateside. Speaking about his move to the US, he said: "I started to play more in the US over the past few years. I felt it was the right time to get a base here, somewhere that I could come in between tournaments. I started to look around this area and I found this house. I really liked it."

Adding a description of his home, he continued: "I don't think there's anything in the area like this house. It's very modern, it's very contemporary, I just liked the whole feel of it when I walked in, very bright, white walls everywhere, and that's what drew me to it," reports the Mirror.

Spanning a palatial 12,800 square feet, McIlroy's lavish seven-bedroom abode is nestled in an elite enclave once home to sports legends Michael Jordan and the Williams sisters. Boasting 10 bathrooms, an expansive rear balcony, its own cinema, a games room, and a luxurious swimming pool, it's a residence that screams opulence.

Rory gushed about his home, saying: "The cool thing about the games room is the pool table, which was a Christmas present from my girlfriend [Referring to Erica at the time] which was one of the best Christmas presents I ever got."

He also shared his love for the pool area, adding: "The pool we spend quite a lot of time in, it's nice with the hot tub, I'll have a couple of friends back here, having music playing. That's my time to get away from golf."

In a twist that has taken fans by surprise, news emerged on Tuesday that Rory and Erica have shelved their divorce plans, with the golf star affirming their commitment to a united future. He stated: "There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool's game."

He continued: "Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning."

Despite recent personal upheavals, McIlroy's performance on the green remains unshaken, securing a tied-15th spot at the Memorial Tournament from June 6-9. His next challenge awaits at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, where he will commence his US Open journey at 1.14pm ET on Thursday (June 13).
