Arsenal transfer news: Done deal as Chuba Akpom leaves club - Gunners message
ARSENAL have sold Chuba Akpom to Greek side PAOK.
The Gunners have confirmed Akpom’s departure after a lifetime career at the club.
“We wish Chuba the best of luck with PAOK,” the club wrote.
Akpom, 22, joined Arsenal as a kid back in 2002 and broke into the first team five years ago.
However, the forward failed to fully establish himself in the Gunners squad.
He went out on loan six times during his Arsenal stint, most recently to Belgian side Sint-Truiden last term.
Akpom’s most successful stint in English football came in the 2015/16 season, where he scored seven goals on loan at Hull - three of which came in the Championship.
Arsenal appointed Unai Emery as their new manager this summer and the boss seemed open to assessing his whole squad before agreeing to departures.
But there appeared little chance of Akpom breaking into Emery’s first XI.
The Gunners have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette up front, while Lukas Perez may be given a second chance at the Emirates.
Emery has signed five first-team players this summer and may be in for one more deal before the transfer window closes.
The Gunners host manchester City in their first match of the season next Sunday, before a trip to Chelsea.
