Manchester United have revealed for the first time their ambitious plans for a new 100,000-seater stadium that the club's top brass are keen on constructing. The club has been open about its aspiration to erect a cutting-edge stadium on land adjacent to Old Trafford ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe, an ardent fan of the club, invested in it.

The Ineos boss subsequently established The Old Trafford Task Force, which includes prominent figures such as Lord Seb Coe and Gary Neville. Although the club hasn't dismissed the idea of refurbishing their current home, it is believed that their preferred choice would be to construct a new £2billion super stadium.

For the first time since the concept was introduced earlier this year, Manchester United have now shared several images of what their potential new stadium might look like if they proceed with their plans, via their official website. According to Oxford Economics, a global advisory firm, United's plans to rejuvenate Trafford Park could potentially enhance the economy by over £7bn.

The proposed new stadium would be the focal point of the project. Computer-generated images of 'New Trafford' depict a spherical design adorned in red, complete with a grand roof.

The visuals, which also illustrate how the surrounding areas could be regenerated, were created by Foster + Partners, the same architects who designed the new Wembley stadium.

The plans have already sparked a lot of interest and comments from fans online since being made public at the beginning of the week.

While a new 100,000-seater stadium could become the 'Wembley of the North' as previously outlined by Ratcliffe, it remains to be seen what will become of United's current home if they do decide to press ahead with their plans.

It had previously been outlined that Old Trafford would be kept intact, albeit with a smaller capacity, in order to host matches for the club's women and academy teams in the future to preserve the iconic venue.

However, it emerged last week in The Mail that plans have changed and it now remains to be seen whether or not Old Trafford will be kept amid concerns that such an outcome is unrealistic due to the complex nature of the plans.

The club will, however, endeavour to set up a heritage focus group to ensure that the historical elements of Old Trafford are preserved if the stadium is bulldozed as part of the new revised plans.
