Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho departure could spark bold managerial appointment
MANCHESTER UNITED would look to appoint Zinedine Zidane as Jose Mourinho’s successor if he leaves, according to reports.
Mourinho has already had a pre-season meltdown, moaning about how he hasn’t had his full squad available to him during the pre-season tour of the USA.
The Portuguese tactician is also in a stand-off with Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over transfers.
United have brought in three players this summer - Lee Grant, Diogo Dalot and Fred.
Mourinho has intimated he wants to bring in at least two new players before the transfer window closes on August 9, however he has conceded he is more likely to make one signing.
His recent comments could prevent him from seeing out the final two years of his contract.
And The Sun claim Zidane is in the frame to take over if Mourinho leaves Old Trafford.
The report suggests United would approach the Frenchman.
Zidane, who walked out on Real Madrid last season after their Champions League success, wouldn’t cost a penny.
United took on Real Madrid last night in the International Champions Cup.
They face Leicester in their first Premier League game of the season on Friday (8pm).
