Mohamed Salah: BT Sport pundit makes Lionel Messi comparison with Liverpool star
FRANK LAMPARD has tried to make a comparison between Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Lionel Messi.
Mohamed Salah has been prolific for Liverpool this season
Salah, who joined Liverpool last summer from Roma, has been sensational in his debut campaign for the Reds.
39 goals in all competitions means he is second to just Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues.
The Egyptian hitman provided another telling contribution as he scored in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final as Jurgen Klopp's men safeguarded their passage to the last four.
Messi and co meanwhile had a miserable night after Barcelona crashed out of Europe’s elite competition at the hands of Roma.
Salah’s started to do that as well standing in areas and also when the ball comes to him and then he goes
A 3-0 loss saw the Catalan giants bundled out on away goals.
Lampard has watched Salah’s progress from afar after he failed to make the grade at Chelsea.
And he thinks his ability to pick up areas on the pitch bears the hallmarks of Messi.
Frank Lampard thinks there is a similarity
“We watch Messi and he’s great at just standing in areas,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“Salah’s started to do that as well standing in areas and also when the ball comes to him and then he goes.”
Liverpool will learn their fate when the Champions League semi-final draw is made at midday UK time on Friday.
