Manchester United have been heavily linked with the defender in recent weeks as Jose Mourinho plots his summer recruitment.
The Red Devils are once again expected to spend heavily at the end of the season in a bid to close the gap on Manchester City.
Umtiti was thought to be one of their top targets after impressing for Barcelona since moving from Lyon two years ago.
The France international currently has a €60million (£53m) release clause in his contract that runs until 2021.

And reports coming out of Spain suggested he would demand a significant pay rise to rid the relatively cheap buy-out clause.
United were said to be considering offering the 24-year-old a mammoth £10m-a-year deal to move to the Premier League.
But according to Spanish publication Marca, the Barcelona hierarchy have received a boost this week that the centre-back will put pen to paper on an improved deal at the Nou Camp.
It deals a bitter blow to Mourinho who will now have to look elsewhere to bolster his defensive ranks.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also said to be ready to offer Thomas Vermaelen a new contract.
The Catalan giants tried to offload the former Arsenal man last year but could not find a suitor.
However, he has since impressed when stepping in this term and is set to be rewarded with a new deal.
