Chelsea legend Claude Makelele 'to be sacked after just three matches' as reasons revealed

Chelsea legend Claude Makelele has reportedly left his role as Asteras Tripolis boss after just three matches in charge.

The Frenchman was appointed coach of the Greek Super League side in mid-September and had enjoyed an unbeaten start to life as Asteras boss.

Drawing his first game in charge, despite playing the final 20 minutes with 10 men, Makelele's men followed it up with another 1-1 stalemate, before picking up their first win under his tutelage this weekend.

A late blitz from Asteras, including a goal from former Manchester United ace Federico Macheda, saw the Greek outfit take three points during their Super League clash against Athens Kallithea.

It took Asteras up to seventh in the Greek Super League table ahead of giant and one of Chelsea's upcoming Conference League opponents, Panathinaikos.

But, the victory doesn't appear to have been enough to keep Makelele in a job, who has reportedly been let go by Asteras.

Reports from Greece suggest the two parties are 'heading for a divorce', citing a difference in philosophies as the main reason for the early split.

A lack of cohesion in the dressing room has also been touted, with Makelele and Asteras having gone their separate ways.

Makelele enjoyed a highly successful playing career, which included a five-year stint at Premier League side Chelsea.

The midfielder was part of one of the club's most successful eras, winning a whopping six major honours during his time as a Blue.

Featuring over 150 times for the side, Makelele won two Premier League titles, two League Cups, one FA Cup and a Community Shield.

Makelele arrived at Chelsea from Real Madrid, where he'd lifted the Champions League with Los Blancos during the 2001/02 season.

Following his spell with Chelsea, Makelele made the move to Paris Saint-Germain where he spent three years before retiring in 2001.

His managerial career started with French side Bastia in 2014, but similarly to his time with Asteras, it was a short-lived stay.

Having left after just 14 matches, Makelele enjoyed his longest managerial stint with Belgian outfit Eupen, where he took charge of 70 matches between 2017 and 2019.

Makelele left Eupen in June 2019 and spent five years in the managerial wilderness before joining Asteras last month.
