DANNY MURPHY has accused the Southampton players of not playing for Mauricio Pellegrino.
'They need to play for the manager' Murphy slams Southampton
The Saints slipped to within two points of the bottom three after being crushed 5-2 by a Harry-Kane inspired Tottenham.
Southampton fans sung for their boss to be sacked during the Wembley horror show and Match of the Day pundit Murphy believes he has lost the dressing room.
Saints have now gone seven league matches without a win.
Murphy said: "There's times you have to play for the manager.
"The basics aren't that difficult in football to do and today they didn't do that from minute one.
"It was embarrassing. That's not being harsh.

"This ain't a team playing for the manager I'm afraid to say.
"People sometimes question the application and I think that's unfair - but not today.
"It was a real lacklustre performance from Southampton and a real worry for their supporters.
"The pressing was non-existant, it was just gesturing. It was like a testimonial.
"No-one was getting near anybody, no one was laying a glove on anybody, no-one was making any tackles.
"Tottenham had it all their own way. Their mentality was really awful and I'm worried for them playing like this."

Asked by host Gary Lineker what exactly went on, Murphy said: "I haven't got a clue how it happened. I think some of them are fed up with what they're being taught on a daily basis.
"They had no energy or enthusiasm. There didn't seem to be a game-plan.
"I fear for the manager as that group of managers weren't playing for him."
