Tony Gale: Harry Kane worth more than Neymar
Kane grabbed a hat-trick as Tottenham ran out 5-2 winners against the Saints at Wembley.
The England international broke Alan Shearer’s record of 36 Premier League goals in a calendar year.
He also surpassed Lionel Messi’s record of 54 goals for club and country in 2017.
And Vertonghen poked fun with a hilarious tweet about Kane.
He tweeted: “One season wonder! #COYS."
Perhaps it was a dig at Kane’s critics, who initially thought he wouldn’t be as prolific as he would be when he first burst onto the scene.

He said: “So happy for him. He deserved it.
“He is not only a talented player but also a great professional.
"It is a great characteristic of him that he is a team player.

"We have seen him grow at the club after three and a half years.
“Massive, massive, massive improvement. That makes us very proud and I am very happy with all he has achieved."
