Derby County news: Nigel Pearson lifts the lid on ‘bad’ decision
NIGEL PEARSON has admitted he was a bad fit for Derby County.
Former Derby boss Nigel Pearson
Former Leicester boss Pearson took charge of the Rams in May 2016 but mastermind just three wins in 16 games.
Derby brought an end to his reign after five months following a blazing row with owner Mel Morris.
“I think all I can say about that is that it was a bad choice by me and it was a bad choice by them probably,” Pearson told the Guardian.
“We all make decisions which turn out to be not necessarily the right ones, but this [working for Belgian club OH Leuven] feels a lot more like what I’m looking for.
“It’s got a different feel, there are possibilities here, and I think it’s a stimulus that I need.”
Meanwhile, current Derby manager Gary Rowett has revealed the club are in talks to extend Joe Ledley’s contract.
Derby hope to extend Joe Ledley's deal
Ledley, who joined the Rams on a short-term deal in September, has impressed Rowett.
“We sat down about 10 days ago with Joe and his representatives, and I made it clear that my intention is to keep him," he said.
"There has been a lot of speculation over whether or not we would do that, and of course until there is final news everyone thinks you are not trying to do that.
"The reality is we want to try and keep him.
"Of course, that will be down to the club, Joe and his representatives.
"I think he has really enjoyed it here - he has loved being back playing.
"We are hopeful we can come to some sort of longer agreement, because he has proved he is integral to what we are doing.”
Rowett has been named the Championship manager of the month for October.
Derby won all four of their games during the month.
