Jose Mourinho says Manchester United tactically outsmarted Chelsea
JOSE MOURINHO says he tactically outsmarted Chelsea in Manchester United’s 2-0 win today.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho oversaw a 2-0 win today
Manchester United beat Chelsea thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera.
It was a contrast to the reverse fixture in October, when Chelsea smashed United 4-0.
The Blues also beat Mourinho’s men 1-0 in the FA Cup earlier this season.
And Mourinho says he stuck to the same tactics that he used in the FA Cup match, insisting United were only denied victory then because of a red card at Stamford Bridge.
"Maybe we didn't 'rest' players ahead of Thursday, we just chose the team we thought was the best team,” he said.
"We went to Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup with same tactics, the game was totally controlled with 11 players, only the decision that made us play with 10 men for the second half and 10 minutes in the first half, gave Chelsea a chance to be dominant.
Mourinho's United side had already lost twice to Chelsea this season
Mourinho says match against Chelsea is ‘just a game’
"We knew that playing this way would be very difficult for them.
"Marcus Rashford played fantastically well. He had a very good game at Stamford Bridge in the cup, exactly the same chance to score, because he is faster than their defenders.
"Today he scored and it gave the team more confidence, more stability."
