Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the seventh minute after Ander Herrera's pinpoint pass.
And Herrera himself added a second just four minutes into the second half via a deflected strike.
With Chelsea gunning for the title, few expected the Blues to lose at Old Trafford.
And Souness reckons United's defensive performances earned them all three points.

"They nullified Chelsea and I can't think of De Gea making one save," Souness told Sky Sports.
"They've done a lot right. If you're a United supporter of a certain age you want them to be on the front foot more, but it was a very effective display."
