Cristiano Ronaldo told Real Madrid not to sign this Manchester United star
CRISTIANO RONALDO told Real Madrid NOT to sign Manchester United star Paul Pogba last summer, according to reports in Spain.
Stormzy: I had to keep Paul Pogba's Man U transfer SECRET
Paul Pogba was linked with moves to Manchester United and Real Madrid during his time at Juventus.
The Spanish giants appeared to be the frontrunners for his signature with a return to Old Trafford unlikely.
But United stunned the world by bringing him back to the club for £89million - four years after letting him leave for free.
Cristiano Ronaldo apparently vetoed Real Madrid's move for Paul Pogba
However, Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Ronaldo played a key role in United’s success in landing Pogba.
The Portugal international rules the roost at the Bernabeu and likes being the club’s talisman.
Reports in Spain last month claimed he had vetoed the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of fear he could usurp him.
And it is now said that Ronaldo ordered Madrid not to sign Pogba.
Real Madrid ended up missing out on Paul Pogba to Manchester United
Pogba revealed in January that he turned down Real Madrid and Barcelona to rejoin Manchester United.
"I came to Manchester United because I have certain goals. It is a big challenge for me," he said.
"I could also have joined Real Madrid or Barcelona, who were interested in signing me. But I chose to return to United because I followed my heart.
"I want to win trophies with Manchester United, I never won anything here. I always told myself that I would one day return to United. It is a club I love a lot and I had unfinished business here. I left because I wanted to play more, but I felt that I was not done here yet.
"I am not even thinking about the transfer fee. I came here to play football."
